§ 31-18. Compliance with chapter.

  • (a)

    The business of transporting passengers for hire in vehicles in the city, other than as defined and classified in this chapter, and under the conditions set forth therein, is prohibited.

    (b)

    No persons shall use the terms "taxi," "taxicab," "for-hire automobile," "for-hire cab," "bus" or "jitney," or in any way advertise or hold themselves out as a taxicab, jitney, bus service operator (except charter services), or for-hire automobile company or operator, or represent themselves to be such by means of advertisement, signs, trade names or otherwise, unless they have previously complied with the requirements, conditions and regulations prescribed by this chapter.

    (c)

    No taxicab or specialized transportation service licensee shall discriminate against any person based on race, creed, color, sex, age, national origin, handicap or veteran's status.
