§ 12-89. Permit—Required; prerequisites to issuance; exception for small jobs.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to make alterations or additions in the existing wiring, either inside or outside of any building or enclosure, or to wire the same for the placing of any electric lights, motors, heating devices or any apparatus requiring use of electric current; or to engage in the business of installing or repairing electric wiring conductors, dynamos, motors, or fixtures; or erecting or removing electric signs or other electrical apparatus or material operating at a differential or potential of fifteen (15) volts or more, without first notifying the city's electrical inspector and securing from him a permit for such work, and complying with the provisions of this article. The fee for each permit, together with assessed inspection fees, must be paid prior to the issuance of the permit.

    (b)

    To expedite small jobs and services, city electrical contractors and electricians in their employ shall be permitted to make minor repairs, alterations, or additions where labor and material does not exceed one hundred dollars ($100.00) before first securing a permit; however, upon completion of such jobs, a permit shall be secured together with the requests for inspection of the completed work.
